Drug Class: It is a targeted therapy drug

Available under the brand name: Xalkori

What Is It Prescribed For? 

  • ALK-positive or ROS1-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that has spread to other body parts.
  • ALK-positive systemic anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL; a type of fast-growing non-Hodgkin lymphoma) in children or younger adults.

How Is It Given?

It is available in capsule form and is taken by mouth twice a day. It can be taken with or without food at around the same time every day.

What Are Common Side Effects?

You may face some of these side effects:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Fluid retention 
  • Tiredness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Abdominal pain
  • Mouth sores
  • Visual side effects like double vision, blurry vision, floater (spots in the vision), sudden flashes of light, visual brightness
  • Weakness, numbness, and pain, usually in the hands and feet

Your doctor can prescribe medication to control these side effects. Crizotinib may also cause other side effects. If you face any unusual or serious problems, inform your doctor immediately.
