Drug Class: It is an HER-2-directed targeted therapy drug

Available under the brand name: Perjeta

What Is It Prescribed For? 

For the treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer in combination with trastuzumab (another Her-2 targeted therapy drug) and chemotherapy.

How Is It Given? 

It is given as an infusion into a vein over 30 – 60 minutes once every 3 weeks.

What Are Common Side Effects?

You may face some of these side effects:

  • Hair loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Lack of appetite
  • Upper respiratory tract infection leading to cough
  • Tingling of hands or feet
  • Difficulty in sleeping
  • Infusion-related problems like fever, chills, redness of the skin, tiredness, skin rashes, headache, etc

Your doctor can prescribe medications to control these side effects. Pertuzumab may also cause other side effects. If you face any unusual or serious problems, inform your doctor immediately.

Who Should Avoid Taking This Drug?

It should be avoided in patients with known hypersensitivity to Pertuzumab or any of its ingredients.
