What Is It Prescribed For?

For the treatment of breast cancer, colon cancer, and rectal cancer.

How Is It Given?

It is available in tablet form and is taken by mouth twice daily. It is taken within 30 minutes after a meal. It should be taken at around the same time every day as directed by your doctor.

What Are Common Side Effects?

You may face some of these side effects:

  • Diarrhea
  • loss of appetite
  • Hair loss
  • skin rash, redness, pain and/or peeling of the skin on the palms of hands and soles of feet
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Low blood counts
  • Inability to taste food
  • Weakness and tiredness
  • Headache
  • Watery eyes

Your doctor can prescribe medication to control these side effects. Capecitabine may also cause other side effects. If you face any unusual or serious problems, inform your doctor immediately. 

Who Should Avoid Taking This Drug?

It should be avoided in patients with severe kidney failure, and severe allergic reactions to Capecitabine.

Available in 150mg and 500mg tablets. Depending on the brand, the cost of Capecitabine 500mg can range between INR 700- INR 1800 per strip of 10 tablets.
