What Is It Prescribed For? 

For the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (a type of kidney cancer that begins in the kidney cells and has spread to other parts of the body). 

How Is It Given?

It is available in tablet form and is taken by mouth. It should be taken at the same time every day with or without food as directed by your doctor.

What Are Common Side Effects?

You may face some of these side effects:

  • High blood pressure 
  • Tiredness
  • Hand-foot syndrome (skin rash, redness, pain, and peeling of the skin on the palms of hands and soles of feet)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Difficulty in speaking
  • Lack of appetite
  • Loss of weight

Your doctor can prescribe medication to control these side effects. Axitinib may also cause other side effects. If you face any unusual or serious problems, inform your doctor immediately.
