Ovarian Cancer

Treatment of stage 2 ovarian cancer

How is stage 2 ovarian cancer treated?

The treatment given to stage 2 ovarian cancer, including stages IIa and IIb is surgery along with chemotherapy. The treatment that includes surgery is staging laparotomy.

Adjuvant treatment

After surgery, an additional treatment of 6 cycles of chemotherapy is recommended.

As patients with stage II ovarian cancer do have chances of the cancer spreading outside the ovary and it cannot be removed by surgery. There are different kinds of chemotherapy that are given to women with ovarian cancer, some women with stage II ovarian cancer are also given intraperitoneal chemotherapy instead of the intravenous chemotherapy (prophylactic HIPEC). The combination of surgery and chemotherapy is the standard treatment that is given to a patient that has stage II ovarian cancer.
